Publishers Comments

Over the last few weeks and months since TJHN began publishing news, we have received many emails, phone calls and have had many great in person conversations with parents, players and fans reading our publication.

Over this time many of the people I have spoken to have commented on the quality, fairness and accuracy of our reporting. I wish to thank all of you for those compliments, comments and suggestions.

For those who have not read the "About TJHN" section, I hope you will take the time to do so now. For further clarity to all, I offer this information;

TJHN is operated as a not for profit business. We do not and will not accept team, league or player money as sponsorship for the publication. We have a "Marketplace" where companies can purchase advertising for products, services and events at a reasonable cost for production. That money helps pay for the site itself.

Advertisers do not, and will not have any say in what stories or the content of the stories that appear in TJHN. This allows for unbiased reporting of the news that effects us all.

Lately many have asked why we do not write about more salacious or controversial issues going on in Junior Hockey. We have been asked why we dont "spice things up" with stories that could cause a stir, or ruffle feathers.

Some publications may or may not purposefully try to ruffle feathers in order to boost readership. We will not participate in that type of writing or publishing. In 1941 Frank Luther Mott described publications in that genre as "Yellow Journalism". Such a publication will typically posses most if not all of the following five characteristics:

1. scare headlines in huge print, often of minor news
2. lavish use of pictures, or imaginary drawings
3. use of faked interviews, misleading headlines, pseudoscience, and a parade of false learning from so-called experts
4. emphasis on full-color Sunday supplements, usually with comic strips
5. dramatic sympathy with the "underdog" against the system.

TJHN covers Junior Hockey without the over the top sensationalism of the topic. We cover all of junior hockey, from the smallest to the largest leagues by hand picking our stories. We do not and will not publish what is sent to us from teams and leagues if it is run of the mill information that can be found anywhere.

Sure we could make headlines with rumor and inuendo, but that is not factual news, and could cause damage to people that may not be deserving. The Press is not meant to be a police force, it is meant to be an information source. Information is power, and by providing fact based educational information we hope to empower the reader with knowledge that will aloow them to make their own informed decisions.
